My Private Lessons Audio Series includes two lessons on riding theory—great to listen to anywhere, in your car or at the barn—paired with two in-the-saddle lessons that put the theory into practice.
- Balance & Rhythm: Theory Lesson
- Balance & Rhythm: Riding Lesson
- Communication & Control: Theory Lesson
- Communication & Control: Riding
In these lessons, I go into detail about the “why’s” and “how’s” of good horsemanship. The riding theory lessons help riders understand how proper riding position and clear, consistent cues increase communication between horse and rider. Then, the riding lessons provide a guided mounted workout with specific exercises to work on in the saddle.
The Balance & Rhythm Theory Lesson discusses how to achieve good balance and rhythm in the saddle, correct position of the rider, and how to move fluidly with the horse.
The Balance & Rhythm Riding Lesson is an in-the-saddle workout that focuses on correct body position and rhythm at the walk, trot and canter as it leads the rider through a full workout, from warm up to cool down.
The Communication & Control Theory Lesson explains how to use natural aids– seat, legs, hands and voice– to communicate with the horse and generate a soft and willing response.
The Communication & Control Riding Lesson is an in-the-saddle workout that contains exercises that instruct the rider to cue with the whole body—emphasizing upward and downward transitions, and clear and consistent cues.
These lessons are beneficial to riders of any level and discipline, and can be used to build a solid foundation for new riders or tune up existing skills for experienced riders.
Great training advice as you ride in the arena. The lessons provide both me and my horse the opportunity to grow in and under the saddle.

Julie instructions are clear and easy to understand.
I haven’t used it much yet at all, but so far it’s classy, sequential and clear and motivating, as are all of Julie’s videos.
