From the Ground Up Series:
- Lead Line LeadershipEstablish your authority, refine your communication and be the ultimate leader your horse deserves. This is the way to partnership. Julie Goodnight leads you through step-by-step exercises with leadership tips and techniques. All demonstrated with different breeds and types of horses. Your horse will learn to focus on you—looking to you for advice and direction. Develop great ground manners—so your horse stands quietly, leads politely, respects your space and looks up to you with admiration and respect.
- Bit BasicsWhen used correctly, a bit helps you communicate clear cues to your horse and achieve high-level maneuvers. Follow Goodnight’s step-by-step directions to introduce a bit to a young horse or to help an older horse learn not to evade a bit. If your horse carries his head too high, hangs on the bit or arches his neck too much, Goodnight’s bitting solutions will help you start over with kindness. Goodnight’s unique bitting system teaches horses to carry themselves in a collected position— and helps them find a release with every step. Watch Goodnight work with a young filly and a 13-year-old gelding who always carried his head high. The two horses show you what it takes to teach a horse to give to bit pressure from the start and how to rehab a horse with a traumatic past. Learn about how bits work and how you can teach your horse to relax , focus and build the muscles needed for collection.
- Ready to Ride Join Julie Goodnight in the fourth edition of her “From the Ground Up” series. Now, it’s time to ride! Building on the lessons learned from the Round Pen Reasoning, Lead Line Leadership and Bit Basics videos, you and your horse will continue kind training techniques and prepare for your first ride. Your horse must know all the previous steps before beginning the Ready to Ride process.Though others may call the process “breaking,” Goodnight prefers a softer approach built on trust and knowing the stages your horse must work through. You’ll learn to “start” your horse without breaking his spirit. Instead, you’ll calmly introduce the saddle, teach your horse to accept your foot in the stirrup, trust that your horse will accept the rider’s weight, then begin to teach cues from the saddle. Start a relationship that will last a lifetime.

Be a balanced, fluid rider and feel confident in the saddle.
- Communication & Control The second in the Goodnight Principles of Riding Series, Communication and Control, shows you how to cue your horse clearly, having control with a light touch. Learn to use your natural aids to give clear, consistent signals and to control your horse’s speed and direction with almost invisible aids. For both English and Western riders—appeals to all levels and ages and gives you instant results. Goodnight’s style is easy to understand and blends natural horsemanship techniques with classical riding principles. You’ll have a thorough understanding of communication and control under saddle. Ride with lightness, maximum control and with less reliance on the reins.
- Perfect Practice In the third installment of her Goodnight’s Principles of Riding series, Julie Goodnight leads riders—those riding English and Western—through fun exercises taught on the ground, while mounted standing still, then gradually perfected at the walk, trot and later, the canter. No matter what your riding ability, you’ll find Julie’s advice practical and her lessons engaging—keeping you active as you test your coordination, gain rhythm and enjoy learning with your equine and equestrian friends. We never reach a level of riding where we no longer have to work on equitation– the art of riding. These exercises are specially designed to improve your balance, rhythm, control and confidence on the horse. No matter what your level of riding, you can challenge your skills and have fun too!
- Refinement & Collection In volumes 1-4 of Goodnight’s Principles of Riding you developed your feel, cues, rhythm and balance—and helped to teach your horse how to respond. Now it’s time to refine your position and cues and to become an elite, refined rider. Julie clearly demonstrates how to ride while conducting your horse’s every step. You’ll learn how to engage your horse’s mind and body as you apply subtle-yet-effective leg and rein cues. Your precise riding will help you collect your horse into a perfect position. Better yet, you’ll create the perfect synchronicity and partnership with your horse. The techniques work for English and Western riders. The better the rider can use the natural aids, the better the horse can comply and perform. Understanding how to apply your aids with precision and how and why the horse responds will allow you to have complete control over every movement your horse makes, with light and subtle signals.

Excellent quality T-Shirt
I have several of Julie’s shirts and love them! The graphics are great, the material is soft and they wear well. In my opinion, they run small. I usually wear a medium but order these in a large.
I love the t-shirts! They are true to size and very comfortable. I have three!
Love my shirt! Perfect light weight for the summer heat!
